Hooks should not always be employed; it very frequently happens that the stem which corresponds to the hook is more conveniently and rapidly executed when connected with a following or preceding stem than the hook could be. For example, the following words are written thus: Tailor, vesper, boiler, lawyer, dismal, misery. EXERCISE--Write the preceding words twelve or more times. The s circle is prefixed to a straight stem with the r hook attached at the beginning of a word, by simply turning the hook into a circle on the r hook side. In such case, the circle is read first, then the stem, and then the hook. This rule is exemplified in the following words:-Li." 1 Upper, supper, pray, spray, true, strew, secret, consider. EXERCISE--Write the preceding words twelve or more times. If another stem precede both the circle and the r hook stem, both must be plainly written, the circle being turned on that side of the preceding stem which will best accommodate the stem.
