Ne en 1954, Henry Laurens est historien. Docteur d'Etat et agrege d'histoire, il est reconnu comme l'un des grands specialistes du Moyen-Orient. Henry Laurens est professeur au College de France (titulaire de la chaire - Histoire contemporaine du monde arabe) et a l'INALCO (Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales); il a par ailleurs ete directeur du Centre d'etudes et de recherches sur le Moyen-Orient Contemporain (CERMOC) a Beyrouth puis directeur scientifique de l'Institut Francais du Proche-Orient. Henry Laurens s'interesse notamment a l etude, sur la longue duree, des relations entre Israel et le monde arabe. En 2004, il a recu le Prix Joseph du Theil de l'Academie des Sciences morales et politiques, ainsi que le Prix de l'amitie franco-arabe de l'Association de solidarite franco-arabe. Henry Laurens est l auteur de nombreux ouvrages, parmi lesquels: "La Question de Palestine, tomes I, II et III" (Fayard, 1999/2002/2007), "L'Orient arabe a l'heure americaine" (Armand Colin, 2004), "Orientales, tome I, II et III" (CNRS editions, 2004), "Histoire du monde arabe contemporain" (Fayard, 2004), "Paix et guerre au Moyen-Orient: L'Orient arabe et le monde de 1945 a nos jours" (Armand Colin, 2005) et "Deux siecles d'Orient" (CNRS editions, 2007).
