The influence of the mind on the body may be so profound and so persistent as to be a cause of actual physical disease. Fear often renders the subject especially susceptible to epi demic influences. Fright is not an infrequent cause of epilepsy. Fear of hydrophobia may cause the symptoms of the disease, although the subject has not been inoculated with the virus.
On the other hand, the agency of psychic causes in the cure. Of ordinary physical disease is very great; but at this point there should be a definite understanding of what is meant by the term psychotherapy.
