Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book by Eli Ives serves as a cornerstone of botanical language, providing definitions and illustrations of 2,400 terms and phrases commonly used in botanical studies. Published at the end of the 18th century, it remains a relevant and detailed reference work that reflects the state of botanical knowledge during a period of shifting taxonomy and new discoveries. The author was at the forefront of his field during the book's creation, and the entries reflect his expertise. Terms are well-defined and grouped into themes such as fructification, roots, herbage, and inflorescence to improve comprehension and easy reference. Throughout, the author sought to establish a set of standard terminologies that would improve communication among botanists seeking to name, describe, and organize the diversity of plant life. His work in this book underpins the field of systematic terminology and serves as a critical resource for understanding plant biology.
