Excerpt from Teaching in Three Continents: Personal Notes on the Educational Systems of the World
The comparisons I was able to make, as a result of my observations in Australia, America, and Europe, proved so interesting to the many educationists I met on both sides of the Atlantic, that I have yielded to their wish to publish them and I have found the task of collating this summary of my conclusions with respect to some of the prominent progressive educational questions of the day a very pleasant, although it has been a hurried one.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a comparative study of public education systems in the United States, England, Australia and Germany, from the perspective of educationalist W. Catton Grasby. It explores how each system responded to the social and political conditions of their respective countries. Despite having similar Anglo-Saxon origins, the American school system developed uniquely due to the absence of a national curriculum and compulsory education laws. By contrast, English schools laid greater emphasis on discipline and rote memorization, while German pedagogy prioritized student self-activity and critical thinking. Meanwhile, Australia adopted a decentralized approach, with significant autonomy granted to individual states. The author analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, providing valuable insights into the development of public education systems and their impact on national development. By comparing educational philosophies and practices across different cultures, this book sheds light on the complex relationship between education, society and the individual.
