The hypergeometric functions, initially investigated by the author Carl Friedrich Gauss, are a class of functions that form one of the most important families of higher transcendental functions. They can be used to represent a wide variety of solutions to linear differential equations in the complex plane. This book explores the expansion of these functions into power series by studying the differential equations they satisfy, relating them to the elliptic integrals. Elliptic integrals are integrals of special functions giving the length of an arc of an ellipse, important for solving problems in mathematical physics such as dynamics and celestial mechanics. Here, the products of complete elliptic integrals are of particular interest, which are investigated using a variety of techniques such as the method of Frobenius, the differential equations connecting K and E, and Legendre's relation.
