Excerpt from Explorations in Australia
As the history of the principal expeditions into the interior of Australia has been narrated by several able writers, I do not propose to repeat what has already been so well told. But, to make the narrative of my own journeys more intelligible, and to explain the motives for making them, it is neces sary that I should briefly sketch the expeditions undertaken for the purpose of ascertaining the nature of the vast regions intervening between Western and the other Australian colonies, and determining the possibility of opening up direct overland communication.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the three expeditions undertaken through the vast, unexplored interiors of Australia by John Forrest. Forrest was involved in several other expeditions throughout the continent and is best known for his daring and successful journeys across the harsh landscapes of the Australian outback. The author takes us back in time to 19th century Australia, painting a vivid picture of the vast, rugged landscape and the challenges faced by the explorers who endeavoured to chart its mysteries. Forrest's expeditions sought to uncover the secrets of the continent, including the fate of the lost Leichhardt expedition, which disappeared in 1848. The author brings together journals, official instructions and other historical documents to provide a detailed narrative of each expedition, allowing readers to follow Forrest's journey across unknown lands, and sharing the hardships endured and discoveries made by this intrepid band of explorers.
