Excerpt from A Series of Plays, Vol. 3: In Which It Is Attempted to Delineate the Stronger Passions of the Mind
After an interval of nine years, I offer to the Public a third volume of the Series of Plays; hoping that it will be received, as the preceding volumes have been, with fome degree of favour and indulgence. This, I con 'fefs, is making very flow progrefs in my pro mifed undertaking; and I could offer fome reafonable exeufe for an apparent relaxation of induftry, were I not afraid it might feem to infer a greater degree of expeétation or defire, on the part of my readers, to receive the re mainder of the work, than I am at all entitled to fuppofe.
