Excerpt from The Caedmon Poems Translated Into English Prose
The Introduction contains a brief review of the critical studies that bear upon these poems, and an outline, at least, of the convincing evidence de veloped against the former theory that they could be regarded as the work of Caedmon. It has not been my purpose to offer new solutions of old problems, but to outline, as adequately and justly as possible, the various contributions that have been made to a knowledge and understanding of the Junius poems.
