Excerpt from The Geography of Plants

In the preface Dr. Marcel Hardy's Introduction to Plant Geography, Professor Herbertson wrote, 'it will be followed by a more advanced book.' This 'more advanced book' is the volume now published.

Many causes have contributed to delay its appearance: the death of Professor Herbertson; the departure of the author to South America; the War and its aftermath, which have rendered so extremely difficult everything connected with the publication of books: but the proofs have been fully revised, and many new photographs have been inserted.

It may be taken as in some sort an expansion of Part III of the earlier work, since the slight 'survey of the continents' given there has served as the plan for the new book, and has been expanded into a full discussion of the conditions in which plants nourish, and their distribution in the great geographical divisions of the earth.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book takes an in-depth look at the diverse plant life that exists across Asia, the largest continent on Earth. In doing so, the author positions this subject within our understanding of the interconnected relationship between the Earth's climates, topography, and ecosystems. The author argues that the spread of plant life on the Asian continent is not uniform. Instead, the continent's massive size and complex geography create a rich mosaic of ecosystems, each with its own characteristics. The author explores this botanical diversity through the lens of key themes. Among them are the influence of mountains and plateaus in creating rain shadows and driving local climates, the impact of monsoonal weather patterns on the growth and type of plant life, and the role of human activities in shaping the natural environment. The book concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding this botanical diversity, highlighting its profound implications for our planet's ecological balance and our own survival. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 9781330354179_0
