Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed study of the development of California co-operative marketing organizations among horticultural producers, chiefly growers of citrus fruits and related produce. The author presents evidence that co-operative marketing has been of benefit to producers by reducing the cost of distribution, improving the distribution and increasing the consumption of the given commodity, standardizing the product, and protecting the growers against losses. Furthermore, the author presents a number of principles which appear to be fundamental to the success of co-operative marketing enterprises. These include the necessity for a recognized need for improvement within an industry, sufficient volume to ensure cost savings, membership limited to those with similar interests and goals, proper financing, equitable distribution of benefits, and democratic governance. The author concludes that, when properly structured and managed, co-operative marketing organizations can be of great benefit to producers in obtaining fair prices and improving the overall well-being of the industry.
