Excerpt from Surgical Operations, Vol. 1
MY purpose in publishing this account Of the Ligature of Arteries is to give a brief, but I hope an accurate, statement of the manner in which the operations may be performed, and in each case of illustrating by diagrams the more important anatomical relations of the parts. For many of these I am in debted to the artistic skill Of my friend and colleague, Mr. William Anderson. The descriptive matter was prepared, in the first instance, for members of the class attending my lectures. I desire to give only what is absolutely essential, and leave the student to gain afterwards, by more extended Observation.
