Excerpt from Pathways to Christian Unity: A Free Church View
We conclude therefore with a confident and urgent appeal for the wide extension of local Christian fellowship and co-operation and for a studied attempt (chap. 7) to bring the sepa rated denominations into formal union where that is already possible, and, for the rest, to make their thought and practice increasingly comprehensive till what is at present impossible shall itself come within their reach. For such a programme we believe the Church is ready in the providence of God.

This book is the result of careful consideration by various Christian leaders who lament the separated state of individual churches whose members have a shared belief in Christ. In the pages that follow, these leaders delineate the key reasons why Christian unity is of such paramount importance, including the need for unity in order to fulfill Christ's desires for the Church and to successfully proclaim the gospel. Also included are insights into the ways in which unity can be achieved, namely by the spiritual work of Christ and the subsequent fellowship of believers. The author underscores the need for the Church to gather as one body to heal divisions that hinder the manifestation of God's will in the world. The book concludes with a plea for practical action toward unity in order to demonstrate the inclusive and loving nature of God and His Church.
