How she came to succeed to the station which had been so well filled by my mother it is not now necessary to enquire; we all used to impute it to the easy carelessness of my father, and some of the older boys were not backward in predicting the most unhappy consequences from the rule of our new gov erness, whose character was not unknown to us. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a satirical exposà of the political and social landscape of America in the early 19th century. The author uses humor and wit to criticize the excesses and absurdities of the time, particularly the rampant corruption, hypocrisy, and incompetence that characterized much of public life. The book's central figure, Aunt Deborah Crabstick, embodies these flaws, and her misadventures provide a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked ambition and self-interest. Through her character, the author explores the broader themes of political power, populism, and the search for equality, while also offering a glimpse into the everyday lives and struggles of ordinary Americans during a tumultuous period in the nation's history.
