Excerpt from The Chart and Scale of Truth: By Which to Find the Cause of Error; Lectures Read Before the University of Oxford at the Lecture Founded by the Rev. John Bampton M.A
Of the existence Of the moral Governor Of nature reason requires no particular proof. She finds him in every thing material which he has made, and feels him in every act Of the mind he has created. But of his will, or law, she stands in need of vast and various information. Of the existence Of this Almighty agent, reason is immediately and intuitively convinced by the will Of man, by conscience, that internal or moral sense, which is the voice Of God, proclaiming his presence in the human heart. But of the nature and duty of moral Obedience, which is the coun terpart of this law, she requires line upon line, and precept upon precept.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book seeks to categorize different types of truth and the methods by which their validity can be proven. It begins by discussing truth based on mathematics and physics, which requires a rigorous logical process of deduction. It then examines truth that originates from the senses, such as through empirical evidence, which requires us to trust our senses and experiences as accurate. Some truth is revealed through the testimony of others, which is based on our willingness to trust the integrity of the source. Finally, the book examines religious truth, which is derived from the authority of the divine. The author discusses the differences between these types of truth and how they are logically approached to arrive at truth.
