The exceeding great kindness and hospitality which are such innate features in the make-up of the Australian assert themselves in every part of the Commonwealth, but to under stand properly What is meant by real hospitality, the traveller must leave the cities and go Outback. The hospitality extended to all Who peregrinate in the Never Never, back-o'-beyond, Lonely Lands, or West-o' Sunset - call the Big Spaces what you will - irrespective of their station in life, is not prompted by a recollection of past benefits, nor by expectation of favours to come it originates in a real honest care for the comfort of others, and looks for no other reward than that of giving happiness, and no other thanks than a kindly recollection on the part of those to whom it is extended. One might say that this hospitality is a custom brought about by peculiar circumstances - the long distances, the vast empty spaces, the glorious climate.
