Excerpt from Judaism at Rome: B. C. 76 to A. D. 140
Debarred from night study, the writer has pursued his work amid daily avocations and interruptions. He could have wished to rearrange and revise some portions of it yet further; but to have attempted this might have endangered publication under his own supervision, and would have precluded attention to other duties, and to the completion of another short work which, if eyesight permit, he would thankfully finish.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the significant but often overlooked influence of Judaism on Roman society and culture between 76 BCE and 140 CE. The author meticulously traces the development of this relationship, highlighting the Jewish struggle for recognition and acceptance within a largely hostile Roman elite. The book delves into the key differences between Jewish and Roman religious beliefs, demonstrating how the Jewish emphasis on a moral God and the importance of individual ethical conduct resonated with a growing number of Romans. The author explores how these ideas, particularly the concept of a single, moral ruler of the universe, challenged the traditional polytheistic system deeply entrenched within the Roman power structure. Through meticulous analysis of historical events and literary texts, the author sheds light on the complexities of this cultural exchange. He examines the constant clash between patrician opposition to both Judaism and its associated Greek culture, and the burgeoning popular support for monotheistic ideals and broader social reforms. The book unveils how this struggle shaped not only religious belief but also the development of Roman law, literature, and political landscape. This book provides a fascinating and illuminating study of a crucial period in Roman history, highlighting the enduring influence of Jewish ideas and the impact of religious and cultural conflict on a society in transition.
