Excerpt from Text-Book of General Pathology
Attempts have been made to formulate a conception of health on a statistical basis by establishing standards of average capacity. On such a basis health would be defined as the condition of the individual which most closely approached to the average standard of the race. The, possession of health, however, is so frequently associated with a wide departure from such an average that such a method becomes useless, and the subjective sensation forms the only satisfactory means of judging of the existence of health.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. In this wide -ranging book, the author explores the interrelated histories of physiology and pathology, demonstrating how their once -shared origin in cellular biology has led to a mutual, century -spanning evolution. The author traces how early attempts to study individual cells gave rise to separate disciplines. Physiology became concerned with the function of specialized cells, while pathology focused on the consequences of aberrations in these functions. However, the author demonstrates how recent advances in both fields have fostered a renewed convergence and the development of new insights into disease mechanisms. The book reveals how a deeper understanding of cellular physiology has revolutionized our knowledge of disease and marks a turning point in the relationship between these two disciplines.
