Excerpt from A Manual of the Practice of Medicine
A 11mm edition of this Manual having been de mended, I have endeavored to render it more worthy of the great encouragement hitherto bestowed upon it. In doing this, the original plan has been adhered to, of making its pages the medium of as much practical in formation as the limited space at my disposal would allow: my aim having been to obtain brevity, not so much by omission as by a strict avoidance of all reite ration; by on all occasions saying what I mean in the fewest number of words possible; as well as by a careful selection of those points, only, which can aid the prac titioner in the discharge of his responsible duties at the bedside. In short, I have endeavored to paint the fea tures of disease not imperfectly, but - as it were - in miniature.
