Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the history of the Petun Indians, an indigenous people who inhabited the lands of present-day Simcoe County, Ontario, between the 1630s and 1650s. The author draws on extensive research, including missionary accounts, archaeological evidence, and oral histories, to present a comprehensive historical account of this fascinating people and the broader context of Huron-European relations in the colonial era. The book focuses on the Petun villages that existed on the eastern slopes of the Blue Mountains, now part of Nottawasaga and Collingwood, and the ten principal villages the Jesuit missionaries established. The author also explores the Petun's culture, their relationship with the surrounding environment, and their ultimate displacement and assimilation. By shedding light on this often-overlooked aspect of Canadian history, this book enriches our understanding of the complex interactions between indigenous communities and European colonizers and their enduring impact.
