The author's aim in this book has been to give a brief and clear account of the industrial developments of electro metallurgy, in language that can be understood by those whose acquaintance with either chemical or electrical science may be but slight: No attempt therefore has been made to discuss the theoretical side of the subject. The meanings of the few technical terms and expressions that have almost necessarily crept into the book will be found in a, glossary on p. 299, where they can easily be referred to by readers.
