Excerpt from Elementary Course in Quantitative Chemical Analysis: With Special Reference
The reagents are always added in the form of dilute solutions of definite and known strength. These solutions, which are termed standard solutions or volumetric solutions, may be classified as follows: class A - Solutions suitable for the determination of one particular substance only. These solutions are made of a strength irrespective of the molecular weight of the active constituent, one cc. Indicating a certain Weight (usually 10 mg.) of the sub stance undergoing determination. As an example of solutions of this kind may be mentioned the potassium permanganate solution as used in iron determinations by technical chemists.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on the quantitative chemical analysis of substances, a branch of chemistry that deals with measuring the composition of compounds or mixtures in order to determine the proportions and presence of their constituent elements. Through introductory analytical chemistry, the author examines two branches of this field: qualitative, which identifies the elements present, and quantitative, which determines their proportions. Providing a comprehensive overview of the subject, this book covers a range of analytical methods, including gravimetric determinations, which involve separating and weighing precipitates, and volumetric analysis, which uses standardized solutions to measure the amounts of substances present. The author also delves into the principles of oxidation and reduction reactions and their applications in chemical analysis. By exploring the theories and practices behind quantitative chemical analysis, this book offers a valuable resource for students, researchers, and professionals in chemistry, materials science, and related fields. Its insights provide a solid foundation for understanding the composition and properties of substances, enabling the development of new materials and technologies.
