Excerpt from Five Years in Damascus, Vol. 1 of 2: Including an Account of the History, Topography, and Antiquities of That City; With Travels and Researches in Palmyra, Lebanon, and the Hauran
While wandering through Bible lands my chief object has been to illustrate Bible truths; and the result of ex tensive travel, and no little research, has been to impress upon my mind the fact that the more we extend our labours in Palestine, whether as antiquarians, geographers, or politicians, the more strongly are we convinced of the literal fulfilment of prophecy, and of the minute accuracy of the topographical and statistical sketches contained in the Word of God.
