The subject is left in an incomplete state, but none of the leading features are wanting. If hereafter it should appear necessary to follow out, to their more perfect conclusions, any of the propositions which the letters contain, the columns of the Morning Chronicle will be again open to me. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book compiles a series of letters from the author published in a major national newspaper in 1833. The author, a staunch believer in individual liberty and justice, examines the ways in which protecting certain sectors of British industry, such as landowners, at the expense of others, was holding back economic growth and progress. The author explores the historical events and policies that led to the dominance of this protectionist ideology, particularly in the agricultural sector, and exposes the inequities it created within British society. Through an analysis of wages, production, class structure, and currency, the author makes a compelling case for free trade, and argues that the pursuit of self-interest by certain groups in society ultimately undermines the prosperity of the nation as a whole.
