Excerpt from Principles of Reform: Political and Legal
I'r need hardly be observed that the title of this work is not to be understood as implying that an attempt to discuss every important question of Reform, now agitated, is to be found in the following pages. But there are certain cardinal and primary subjects, alike in politics as in law, to which Reform must first be directed, and in which it must secure success before any further advance can be made. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a discussion of the political reforms needed for the British Government in the era following the end of the Crimean War. The author argues that recent conflicts have revealed a great inconsistency between our professed principles and our actual practices in foreign affairs. The conflicts discussed include the Hungarian insurrection, the Italian revolution, and the Polish revolt. The author's main focus is to demonstrate these inconsistencies through historical examples and to argue for the adoption of an educational franchise to help rectify the problems he highlights in the British political system. The book hopes to provide a framework for how to better align our conduct on the global stage with our values and national interests.
