Its admirable fitness for universal circulation, and the be lief that the dissemination of the volume and its mission of usefulness would be greatly extended, if it were before the public with a title less specific, and more expressive of the general character of its contents, has led the undersigned, in introducing it anew to the public, to adopt the present title.

Excerpt from The Bethel Flag: A Series of Short Discourses to Seamen

A Short Introductory Prayer at the beginning of the Service, and immediately before Reading the Scriptures.

O Lord God, the Creator, the Preserver, and the Redeemer of men! we thine unworthy servants, separated in thy providence from the privileges of thy Sanctuary, are here met to worship before thy great and holy throne. We thank thee for this opportunity; and that the throne at which we bow is a throne of grace. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ we approach thee; and since he has said, "Wherever two, or three, are met together in my name, there am I in the midst of them," do thou grant us thy presence in these services, that we may worship thee with reverence and godly fear, to our own profit and thy glory. Amen!

[Here let a portion of the Scriptures be read.]

[Then let there be offered the following General Prayer.]

Lord, thou art God, that hast made the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a selection of sermons given by the author on topics ranging from the omnipotence of God to the blessings of the Sabbath. The author belonged to the school of thought known as the "Bethel Flag," which sought to spread the Christian message to seamen. Many of the sermons were delivered on ships at sea, and the author uses the ocean as a metaphor for the vastness and power of the Christian message, and for human life in general, with its tempests and calms. Often beginning with an evocative description of the sea and the ship, the author segues into a meditation on the human condition, and the Christian message of salvation and eternal life. The sermons are eloquent and persuasive, and are written with a deep understanding of the human heart. This is a valuable book for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the power of faith in God. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
