Excerpt from Songs From Prudentius

The musick of it echoes still, Dim in the mighty vault of Rome's vast sanctuary, When clerkly voices chant their matin hymn, and sometimes too at night, And in Toledo's noble shrine Where Gothic liturgy, last of its race, still reigns When the red sun hath set, and canons sing their old-world evensong.

Reseña del editor

Excerpt from Songs From Prudentius

Some fifteen hundred yews ago,
There dwelt, in sunny Spain, the bard whose praise I hymn;
His name, Prudentius, but of the man, save what he wrote himself

In the brief preface to his work,
Wherein he tells his own life's tale - 'Should'st read it friend, -
We naught have cognizance, save this alone, e'en that his voice was sweet.

The musick of it echoes still,
Dim in the mighty vault of Rome's vast sanctuary,
When clerkly voices chant their matin hymn, and sometimes
too at night,

And in Toledo's noble shrine -
Where Gothic liturgy, last of its race, still reigns -
When the red sun hath set, and canons sing their old-world evensong.
