It has been my lot to be bored extensively by lectures, and to bore other people in return. All the time, but especially when listening to other people's lectures, I have tried to find out and define the causes of boredom. Thirty years of combined suffering and infliction justify me in laying down a few simple rules, which I bequeath to posterity.
