Excerpt from Juvenal: With Introduction, Notes on Thirteen, Satires, and Indices
The commentary owes much to the editions of Heinrich, Mayor, Lewis, Friedlander, and Duff, also to Friedlander's and his edition of Martial. In preparing that part of the Introduction which treats of language and style, important help has also been received from Kiaer, and from the dissertations of Weise and of Lupus.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book comprises sixteen satires composed by the Roman poet Juvenal in the first and second centuries AD. A literary response to the rampant vices and excesses of the Roman elite, the satires are a remarkable example of the genre and have influenced countless writers since. Juvenal's forceful rhetoric and brilliant wit skewer corrupt politicians, wealthy hypocrites, and the degenerate lifestyles of the aristocracy. Yet, within each satire is a deeper philosophical inquiry into the nature of virtue and vice, and the timeless struggle between good and evil. These satires remain as relevant today as when they were written, offering a profound and insightful commentary on human nature and the dangers of unchecked power.
