Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This compelling collection of letters and literary fragments, many published here for the first time, offers an intimate glimpse into the lives and friendship of four young men: Gray, Walpole, West, and Ashton. Known as the Quadruple Alliance, they met as students at Eton College and remained close throughout their lives. As well as shedding new light on the personal relationships between these four friends, this volume situates them within the broader context of their time. Through their frank and revealing correspondence, these men illuminate for us the social, literary, and intellectual life of 18th-century England. In addition to the previously unpublished letters, this book also includes notes from Gray's travels in France, Italy, and Scotland, along with a selection of his poems and other writings. Readers will find this book a fascinating and informative read, offering a fresh perspective on the lives and works of some of England's most celebrated literary figures.
