Excerpt from The First Christian Century: Notes on Dr. Moffatt's Introduction to the Literature of the New Testament
As a German classical scholar remarked (I think in "Hermes") some years ago, the methods of Biblical criticism are coming to be a jest among philologists. This book is a protest in the name of history and of literature against the revival of a method in criticism which I had supposed to be antiquated and discredited.
To the ordinary Classical scholar it seems almost a crime to place at wrong dates, and attribute to anonymous and fictitious authors, writings of the highest value as historical authorities and as works of literature. It is a duty to raise one's voice against such a theory.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book challenges accepted historical and literary viewpoints, particularly in terms of the religious and historical origins of the New Testament. Exploring critical and archaeological scholarship, the author argues that the dating and authorship of various biblical books, including the Gospels and Epistles, have been misrepresented. Instead, the author suggests that many of these writings emerged later in the second century, attributing disputed authorship and narratives to specific figures in order to establish historical and apostolic foundations for the Christian church. Through thorough analysis, this book sheds light on the complexities of early Christian history and the transformative role of tradition in shaping our understanding of early religious movements. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 9781330773772_0
