The title has been changed from "The Collapse of the New England Theology," to "Humanism in New England Theology," because the former title indicated only the passing of a historic system of thought, while indicating not at all the permanent ideas in that system. For the purposes of the article it seemed best to take the title from Dr. Foster's book, then under review. The new title emphasizes what the writer conceives to be the fundamental principle of every attempt to interpret the mystery of the Infinite.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the rise and fall of New England Theology, a system of thought derived from the Calvinist tradition that dominated Christian faith in the region for over 150 years. The author argues that this rigid doctrine, which emphasized the sovereignty of God, the depravity of humankind, and the limitations of human reason, ultimately collapsed due to its lack of originality, depth, and irrelevance to the religious consciousness it claimed to serve. While the author acknowledges the intellectual rigor of its chief proponents, such as Edwards, Bellamy, Hopkins, and Taylor, he ultimately concludes that New England Theology's failure to engage with contemporary intellectual and social currents led to its demise, making way for a more dynamic and progressive understanding of Christian faith. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
