When the first edition of this book was published the intention was to make it Part I of a treatise on the Dynamics and Design of a high-speed Steam Engine. Part II was to treat of the Dynamics and Design of Shaft Governors. This second part is now nearly finished, but proves to be so difficult and volumi nous as to make it unsuitable for most undergraduate work in technical schools; it will, therefore, be issued as a separate and independent work.
