Excerpt from A Pictorial Hand-Book of Modern Geography: On a Popular Plan, Compiled From the Best Authorities, English and Foreign, and Completed to the Present Time; With Numerous Tables and a General Index
In the present edition the typographical errors which had escaped in the first have been corrected, all ascertained changes in population, especially those shewn in the recent Censuses of England and America, have been introduced, and several new wood engravings have been substituted for old ones. A few notes also have been added, to explain the present unsettled state of Italy and America which is all that can be done respecting these countries till they have arrived at some definite condition.
The Publisher feels gratified by the favourable reception which his Volume has hitherto met with, both from the public and the reviewers, and trusts by attention to future editions to render it worthy of continued patronage.
