This book details the development of the Christian Unity Movement in America from its early beginnings through the years leading up to its publication in the early 1920s. The author traces the emergence of the movement from the deep concerns of Christian leaders over the divisions within the Church, the perceived erosion of its moral and ethical authority, and the existential threat posed by political radicalism. The author discusses in depth the myriad beliefs and influences that converged to give rise to the movement and the range of responses it engendered. They also examine the practical expressions of Christian unity that came out of the movement, including cooperative endeavors, federated organizations, and even attempts at organic union.
