General George Washington was born in the parish of Washington, Westmoreland county, in Virginia, February 22, 1735. He was the third son (and first rey a second marriage) of Mr. Augustine Washington, a planter and farmer of respectable talents, distinguished reputation, and large estate, in Virginia. The ancestors of this gentleman, about the year 1657, removed from Yorkshire in England, to Virginia, and settled in King George's county.
