Excerpt from The Liberty of Teaching Vindicated: Reflections and Proposals on the Subject of Irish National Education; With an Introductory Letter to the Right Honourable Wm; E. Gladstone, M. P
Religious teaching is no longer made an essential part of education; and a school may now receive aid from the Board, in which there is no religious instruction whatever. In some very rare instances this has actually occurred. That they are not more frequent is owing solely to the habits and feelings which prevail among all classes of the Irish people.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a meticulous examination of Irish national education history and the key issues surrounding it. The author examines the key themes of religious instruction in schools, the role of the state in education, and the question of united versus separate education. It argues that the current system of education in Ireland is flawed and does not meet the needs of the Irish people, and traces the history of the issue back to 1831 and the establishment of the national education system by Lord Derby. The author provides a detailed analysis of the changes that have been made to the system over the years, and concludes by arguing that the system should be reformed to give parents more freedom to choose the type of education they want for their children. This book will be of interest to anyone interested in the history of education in Ireland, or in the broader debate about the role of the state in education.
