Excerpt from A Communist Trial
There were no prosecutions under this law until seventeen years later, when it was resurrected for the purpose of putting into prison, not those who advocated Criminal Anarchy as de fined by the law, but Revolutionary Socialists or Communists. While the Communist advocacy may be detrimental to the capitalist class and the capitalist system, it is not that of Criminal Anarchy as defined by this law. Any thinking person will be quickly convinced of this by reading the contents of this pamphlet.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the contentious 1920s trial of C.E. Ruthenberg and I.E. Ferguson, two prominent figures in the burgeoning American Communist movement. The trial revolved around their alleged violation of New York's Criminal Anarchy Law, a law passed in the wake of President McKinley's assassination and intended to suppress anarchist ideologies. The book presents the trial transcripts as a compelling window into the burgeoning Communist movement in the United States and the anxieties surrounding it. It explores the theoretical underpinnings of Communism as articulated by the defendants, highlighting their arguments against the characterization of their political beliefs as criminal anarchy. Through the defendantsââ ⢠own words, the book exposes the class-based nature of the trial, revealing the deep divisions and political anxieties that gripped American society in the years following World War I. This book offers a unique and valuable historical perspective on the evolution of communist thought in the United States and the legal and societal challenges it faced in the early 20th century.
