Excerpt from A Sermon: Preached Before the Protestant Episcopal Association for the Promotion of Christianity Among the Jews, in St. Matthias' Church, Philadelphia, on Sunday Evening, January 14, 1877
For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief; 'even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
There is something intensely interesting in the past history and future destiny of the Jews. From whatever point viewed, they become to us a marvel and a study.
If we look at them in their National character, they present the most remarkable ethnic phenomenon in the history of the world. For no people have ever been dispersed among other people, without losing their national traits and characteristics but the Jews, though scattered throughout the habitable globe for eighteen hundred years, still preserve their ethnic identity and peculiarities, and though they mingle with every nation, blend with none.
If we look at them as an Historical nation, they present greater points of interest than can be found in the annals of any other country. Their histories go back a thousand years and more beyond the birth-day of the most renowned nations of antiquity, and, what is more, their histories, unlike the fables and myths which hang like clouds around the origin of the Athenians and of the Romans are clear, true and God-in spired.

If we look at them as a Prophetical nation, we see a nation about whom the first prophecy in Eden was uttered, and among whom existed a line of Seers, extending through a period of twelve hundred years, before whose visions were presented, and by whose pens were written, the future destinies of the world.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a scholarly examination of the complex history of Jews and their complex relationship with other societies. Drawing from history, religious texts, and the author's personal experiences, the book delves into the deep-seated prejudices that have led to centuries of animosity between Jews and Christians, and the devastating persecution Jews have endured as a result. The author argues that the conversion of the Jews is crucial for the fulfillment of Christian eschatology, but that such conversion will only occur through the loving efforts of Gentile Christians. Examining the many challenges to Jewish conversion, including deep-rooted cultural and religious beliefs, the author encourages Christians to show compassion and understanding, and to recognize the Jewish people's status as beloved children of God. Moreover, the book asserts that the Christian Church has a unique opportunity to evangelize Jews, given its strong liturgical similarities to Jewish worship practices. By embracing their shared heritage and demonstrating genuine love and respect, Christians can create a welcoming environment for Jewish seekers. Ultimately, this book invites readers to recognize the vital role that Jewish conversion will play in the culmination of history, and provides a roadmap for Christians to engage in this transformative work with sensitivity and grace.
