Excerpt from The Civil Code of Japan
Sometimes unusual words have had to be employed to render the corresponding Japanese expressions, for instance the word prestation, which, however, is used to some extent by recent writers in English.
A most important difference between the English system and the system embodied in the new Japan ese Code is that the latter does not recognize the distinction between real and personal property, which plays so important a part in the former. The rules relating to property are mostly stated in a general form, so as to apply to all kinds of property.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed translation of Japan's first Civil Code, which was heavily influenced by German law. In contrast to English law, this code does not distinguish between real and personal property; instead, many rules relating to property are stated in a general form that applies to all kinds of property. The law also introduced concepts alien to the English system, such as the distinction between obligations and rights and the idea of a 'juridical person'. The author provides context for the code by discussing the history of Japanese law and its adaptation to a modern nation-state. Overall, this book is a thorough explanation of the Japanese Civil Code, which provides valuable insights into the Japanese legal system.
