Excerpt from The First Soprano
If worship is not sincere, it becomes, spiritually, an abomination. If, for instance, our singing, instead of being a true sacrifice of praise to God degenerates into the sensuous enjoyment of a concourse of sweet sounds, it is no longer worship, and it is not even an innocent employment. However fine it may be as a musical entertainment, if offered as a substitute for worship it may be likened to the ofiering of 'strange fire, which met such instant judgment in the time of Moses.

Against the backdrop of a society entrenched in religious ritual, the author delves into themes of sincerity, hypocrisy, and the search for genuine worship. As Winifred grapples with the dissonance between her outward actions and inner beliefs, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and comes face to face with the profound reality of a personal relationship with God. Through her struggles and triumphs, the book offers a nuanced examination of organized religion, the nature of true worship, and the transformative power of faith.
