Excerpt from Lectures on the Acts of the Apostles and on the Epistles
MY work explanatory of the Gospels has been long before the world, and I now complete my Observations on the New Testament with these Lectures on the Acts and the Epistles. They were prepared for the purpose of qualifying the Students entrusted to my care for an intelligent and bene~ ficial study of Commentaries and Treatises on Theology; and as it appeared to me desirable to keep them within moderate limits, I have abstained from critical discussions, and have in general been content to state my opinion, without a reference to the reasons on which it has been formed. They are committed to the press in the persuasion, that those who have received their education in Mag dalene Hall during the many years in which I have been Principal, will value them as an acceptable memorial of their University residence, and with the desire that they may promote the edification of all who read them, by leading them to a more diligent and prayerful perusal of this portion of the Word of God.
