Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is representative of early 20th century immigrant self-help manuals, providing a practical guide to basic English language skills for non-native speakers. It was written by an educator who taught English to immigrants in the United States between 1908 and 1913. The work was created as a method of teaching English as a second language, revised over several years of classroom experience with immigrant students. This book is an early example of ESL textbooks designed to give non-English speakers the basics of grammar, sentence structure, and pronunciation. It also includes vital information for newly arrived immigrants, such as the history and structure of the United States government, and how to become a naturalized citizen. The author seeks to provide a well-rounded guide to help immigrants not only learn English, but also to understand their new country, its laws, and its history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
