Excerpt from Our Civil War; The Principles Involved, Its Causes and Cure: Being a Discourse Delivered on Thanksgiving Day, Nov; 27, 1862
I shall make no apology to this audience, for occupying the present hour in giving you What is commonly called a political sermon. The crisis in our history imposes a duty upon all good citi zens which the loyal in heart cannot well resist. And this duty rests with no less weight upon the minister at the altar, than upon any other member of the community. Indeed, the special oath of God is upon him, and he should be careful to maintain a good conscience before his fellow countrymen and the world, as well as before highheaven. He has no right, in any circumstances, or under any pretext, to ignore, or repudiate, or shoulder aside, those obligations which bind him to the social structure of which he is an individual element, or a constituent part.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book addresses the moral and political dilemmas presented by the American Civil War. The author sees the conflict as an inevitable clash between two incompatible systems: the democratic principles of the North and the slave-based economy of the South. By examining two opposing Biblical passages, the author argues the Civil War is comparable to earlier conflicts between good and evil. The author also discusses the global political implications of the war and laments its human cost, emphasizing the bloodshed and suffering on both sides. Ultimately, the book is not only a historical account but also a meditation on the complexities of human nature and the challenges of nationhood.
