Excerpt from Catholic and Protestant Countries Compared: In Civilization, Popular Happiness, General Intelligence and Morality
HE chief object of this book is to so far arouse the interest of its readers as to lead them to ex amine into the truth or falsehood of the grave popu lar accusations laid against the Catholic Church and her priesthood and people; and also to induce them to test'the value of the evidence offered in support of the boastful claims one so often hears made for the alleged superior intellectual character and moral influence of Protestantism and modern Secularism.
The better to realize this object the rule adopted in its preparation limited the admission of any evi dence to what might be found furnished by Protest ant Witnesses and ofiicial authorities; excluding any distinctively Catholic testimony. In two or three in stances quotations have been made from Catholic writers, but these are offered only as corroborative of the evidence given by non-catholic ones.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a thorough examination of how Catholic and Protestant countries compare in terms of their respective levels of civilization. The author, a Catholic priest, seeks to challenge the notion that Protestantism is inherently superior to Catholicism in terms of fostering progress and social well-being. Drawing upon historical evidence and statistics, the book argues that Catholic countries have made significant contributions to the arts, sciences, and education, and have often outpaced Protestant nations in terms of social justice and economic equality. The author also delves into the moral and spiritual dimensions of civilization, arguing that Catholicism provides a stronger foundation for personal and societal virtue than Protestantism. Ultimately, the book challenges readers to rethink their assumptions about the relationship between religion and civilization, and to consider the possibility that Catholicism may have more to offer society than they previously believed.
