Himself responsible either for the interpretation of particular passages which the Editors of the several Books have adopted, or for any opinion on points Of doctrine that they may have expressed. In the New Testament more especially questions arise of the deepest theological import, on which the ablest and most conscientious interpreters have differed and always will differ. His aim has been in all such cases to leave each Contributor to the unfettered exercise of his own judgment, only taking care that mere controversy should as far as possible be avoided.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the life and writings of James, the brother of Jesus, and explores his complex relationship with both Jesus and the early Christian community. The author carefully examines the different interpretations of James's relationship with Jesus, including the popular theories that James was either a younger brother, a stepbrother, or a cousin of Jesus. The author also considers the historical significance of James as a leader in the early Church, particularly his role in the Council of Jerusalem, which established the acceptance of Gentile converts into Christianity. The book's analysis of James's life and writings sheds light on the early tensions within the nascent Christian faith, particularly the conflict between those who insisted on adhering to Jewish law and those who embraced a more inclusive understanding of faith. Through a detailed analysis of the Epistle of James, the author explores its themes of faith, works, and the practical application of Christian living. The book's insights offer a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics that shaped the early Church and continue to resonate with Christian faith today.
