Historically, British Columbia has, hitherto, had comparatively an unwritten record. It is true, that within the last thirty years, many pamphlets and books respecting the Province have been written, but they were principally confined to climatic, geographical and descriptive matters hence the present effort of the Author to search for, gather, and compile, from such sources as were available, as full and complete a record as possible of this interesting portion of the Dominion. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the history of British Columbia from its first discovery to the brink of the 20th century, with a particular focus on the different periods of its development. Starting from the pre-historic era inhabited by native tribes, the narrative moves through the fur trading era when British navigators first discovered the region and the subsequent colonization period in which immigration and mining began to shape the region. The author analyzes themes of exploration, trade, governance, and the environment, weaving together primary and secondary sources to construct a comprehensive account of the province's past. By synthesizing first-hand accounts from explorers and settlers with historical research, this book provides a unique perspective on the forces that have shaped British Columbia's identity and its place within Canada.
