Excerpt from Report of the Centenary Conference on the Protestant Missions of the World, Vol. 2: Held in Exeter Hall (June 9th 19th), London, 1888, Edited by James Johnston
But a knowledge of the first principles of the healing art may be acquired, under good teaching, and with the experience which many hospitals will afford to Missionary students, in a couple of years. And the contrast between one who has such an elementary training as this, and one who has none at all, the difference in calmness and nerve as respects himself, and the difference in usefulness in regard to others, when Sickness or accident may have arisen, is immense. It needs to be witnessed to be fully understood.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book from the 1888 International Conference on Missions serves as a historical record of the first gathering of its kind and considers the challenges and complexities facing those working to spread Christianity around the world. Members, including doctors, educators, and clergymen, sought to define the ideal characteristics of those who would leave their homes to do this work and the training they might require. The book's insights remain relevant to modern missions, exploring the challenges of spreading the faith and the qualities needed for successful missionaries to overcome them. The text covers topics such as mental and spiritual preparation, practical and theoretical training, and the importance of medical knowledge for those working in remote areas. It also emphasizes the need for missionaries to be driven by a love of souls and a willingness to endure great difficulties, making this book an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the history of missions or the ongoing challenges of spreading faith around the world.
