Excerpt from Notes on the High School Reader: Third Class Literature for 1886-7
The notes herewith presented are the prelude and harbingers to a complete annotation of the High School Reader; and they are issued in this separate form at the request of many of the teachers in our Public Schools, High Schools, and Collegiate Institutes, in order that their pupils might have in their hands, at as early a date as possible, the portion of the complete work bearing directly on the subjects prescribed for the next ensuing Examination of Candidates for Teachers' Certificates.
