And there came two artists to our inn, of whom one was an amateur, a Harvard man, and the other was a professional painter, a cosmopolitan, Parisian bred. The latter was painting the quaint old colonnades of Via San Romano the American was busy making many sketches; now trying to catch the sunbeams that play on the columns of Casa Romei, now dipping his brush in sepia to record the sombre shadows of Via Delle Votte.
